Google Home and Gemini for Home Receive Significant Voice Control and Feature Updates
Google is rolling out a substantial update to its Google Home and Gemini for Home platforms this week, introducing several improvements to voice assistant controls and overall functionality. For Gemini for Home, enhancements include better voice control over Spotify media selection, allowing the assistant to more accurately understand artist names and playlists. Users can now also specify exact color temperatures for smart lights, such as '2700 kelvins.' Broadcast messages within the home have been streamlined, enabling users to initiate a broadcast and then provide the message in a separate command. The Google Home app is also receiving updates, including latch control for European-style smart locks, consistent temperature units across the app and Nest devices, and a fix for low 360p live stream resolution on Android. Additionally, several iOS-related bugs have been addressed to improve stability and user experience.
