Anant Ambani Proposes Relocation of Colombian Hippos to India
Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has proposed relocating 80 hippos from Colombia to his wildlife sanctuary in India. These hippos are descendants of animals introduced by Pablo Escobar in the 1980s, and their population has grown to around 160, threatening native species in Colombia. The Colombian government had planned to cull 80 of these hippos due to their invasive nature. However, Ambani offered a humane solution by providing a safe home for them at his rescue center, Vantara. The proposal includes a veterinary-led capture and transport, as well as the creation of a purpose-designed naturalistic setting for the hippos.
