Vermont Attorney General Targets Kraft Heinz in Ultra-Processed Foods Investigation
The Vermont Attorney General's Office has initiated a legal action against Kraft Heinz, seeking to enforce a civil investigative demand (CID) related to the company's practices concerning ultra-processed foods (UPFs). The petition, filed in Vermont state court, does not make substantive consumer protection claims but aims to compel Kraft Heinz to comply with an investigative subpoena under Vermont law. The investigation focuses on whether Kraft Heinz's research, development, manufacturing, and marketing practices may constitute unfair or deceptive acts under Vermont's Consumer Protection Act. The state first issued a CID in May 2025, followed by a second in January 2026, seeking detailed information about the company's internal operations and external relationships. Despite multiple extensions, Kraft Heinz has not fully complied, prompting the Attorney General to seek court intervention.
