Southwest High School Celebrates Project ACE to Promote Environmental Health Awareness
Southwest High School in El Centro, California, recently celebrated Project ACE (Air Community Education) as part of Earth Day activities. The initiative, which is student-led, aims to increase awareness about air quality and environmental health in Imperial County. Students involved in the program were recognized for their efforts with certificates and monetary stipends. Project ACE is designed to build environmental health literacy and empower youth leadership by allowing students to create air quality awareness campaigns. The program is a collaboration between Southwest High School alumna Hanna Zia, the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District, and several educational and environmental organizations. Students engaged in hands-on learning, including field trips to the Salton Sea, to understand air quality issues and solutions.
