Mississippi Legislature Plans Public Meetings for Redistricting Input
The Mississippi Legislature has announced a series of public meetings to gather input on redistricting efforts for legislative, congressional, and judicial districts. This initiative follows the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Callais v. Louisiana, which deemed racial gerrymandering unconstitutional. The Joint Legislative Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting, led by Senator Dean Kirby, Rep. Noah Sanford, and Rep. Rodney Hall, will oversee the meetings. Scheduled to begin on August 18 and conclude on September 24, these meetings will be held in various cities across the state and will be livestreamed for public access.
