Springfield-Greene County Library Hosts Holocaust Exhibition to Educate on American Responses
The Springfield-Greene County Library District in Missouri has been selected to host the 'Americans and the Holocaust' traveling exhibition, organized by the United States Holocaust Museum and the American Library Association. This exhibition will be displayed from June 15 to July 27, 2026, in the Library Center Reading Room. It aims to explore how Americans responded to Nazism, war, and genocide in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s. The exhibition draws on primary source materials from that era to challenge the assumption that Americans were largely unaware of or inactive during the Holocaust. It also examines the influence of the Great Depression, isolationism, xenophobia, racism, and antisemitism on American responses. This exhibition is part of a broader tour that will visit 50 libraries across the U.S. from 2024 to 2026.
