Severe Storm Topples Tree onto Westbury Home, Trapping 37 Cats
A severe storm on Monday night caused a large tree to fall onto a home on Oakdale Drive in Westbury, Long Island, trapping 37 cats inside. The incident occurred around 9 p.m., but the family residing in the house managed to escape unharmed. The homeowner, Wendy Kimball, shared that her brother, a stroke and cancer patient, narrowly avoided being struck by the falling tree. The tree, which was over 70 years old, had sentimental value to the family as it was planted by Kimball's father. Animal rescuers have so far managed to remove less than a third of the cats due to safety concerns, as part of the roof and wall collapsed shortly after the tree fell. The storm also caused damage to other homes in the area, with several large trees uprooted due to saturated ground conditions. [Source time: 2026-08-11T21:50:00+00:00]
