Hezbollah Rejects Outcomes of Lebanon-Israel Talks in Washington
Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, has declared it will not adhere to any agreements resulting from the direct talks between Lebanon and Israel in the United States. These negotiations, which Hezbollah opposes, are set to occur between Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors in Washington. This marks the first face-to-face meeting between the two nations' envoys in decades, despite their lack of diplomatic relations. Wafiq Safa, a senior Hezbollah official, stated that the group is not directly communicating with Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun or Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, but rather through Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. Hezbollah has expressed readiness to negotiate with the Lebanese government regarding its weapons if a ceasefire and Israeli troop withdrawal occur.
