Septic Emboli from Endocarditis Pose Significant Risk of Organ Damage
Septic emboli, which are fragments of infected material breaking off from heart valves due to endocarditis, pose a serious threat by traveling through the bloodstream and blocking vessels, leading to infection and damage in other organs. These vegetations, composed of bacteria, platelets, fibrin, and white blood cells, can detach and migrate, causing occlusion and spreading infection. The danger lies not only in the blockage but also in the infection carried by the embolus, which can lead to abscess formation in various parts of the body.
