Missouri Residents Face Soaring Liberty Utilities Power Bills, Some Nearing $8,000
Residents in Aurora, Missouri, are reporting a dramatic increase in their electricity bills from Liberty Utilities, with some balances rising into the thousands of dollars. One resident, Sara Hooker, claims her bill is approaching $8,000. Other customers, like Cailey Tucker, have seen their monthly charges jump by over $1,000. Cindy Lightfoot, an Aurora senior, noted that her electric bill is starting to rival her housing costs, despite moving to a smaller home. Patrick McCloud described a continuous escalation in his monthly bill, from $200 to over $1,000, without a change in usage. The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) has investigated Liberty Utilities due to increased complaints regarding billing and customer service and continues to monitor the company, requiring quarterly billing-metric reports. Liberty Utilities stated it is reviewing the issues and that its initial investigation does not indicate a system issue, promising to correct any errors found.
