Honolulu Restaurant Roof Collapses, Injuring Four People
A large section of the roof at Happy Days Chinese Seafood Restaurant in Honolulu's Kaimuki neighborhood collapsed on Tuesday, injuring four people. Approximately 40 individuals were inside the restaurant when the incident occurred. The Honolulu Fire Department responded to the scene, finding employees and customers evacuated outside. An estimated 40-by-40-foot section of the roof had caved in. Emergency medical officials reported that four women, all in their late 60s and 70s, sustained injuries. Three of the women were evaluated at the scene and declined hospital transport, while a 77-year-old woman with minor lacerations was taken to a hospital. Fire officials noted that the roof collapsed gradually, allowing many occupants to move to safety. Rescue crews conducted searches to ensure no one was trapped, and hazardous materials personnel monitored for gas leaks, leading to the evacuation of neighboring units as a precaution. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse.
