York County Man Loses $47,000 in Dating App Scam Involving Fraudulent Documents
A York County man was defrauded of over $47,000 through a scam orchestrated via a dating app. The Northern York County Regional Police have charged Abdul Rashid Ibraham, 27, from the Bronx, New York, in connection with the scheme. The victim met a woman named 'Lara Lafayette' on the app, who claimed she needed money to access a $950,000 inheritance. The victim sent two checks totaling more than $47,000, which were cashed at a TD Bank in New York. Ibraham was identified as the suspect through addresses linked to the bank account used in the fraud. He faces charges of theft by deception, financial exploitation of an older adult, and criminal use of a communication facility.
