President Trump Seeks Supreme Court Intervention to Continue White House Ballroom Construction
President Trump's administration has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the continuation of construction on a $400 million ballroom project at the White House. This request comes after a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ordered a halt to the work, ruling that Congress had not approved the project. The appeals court's majority concluded that President Trump lacked the unilateral authority to build the 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which involved the demolition of the White House's East Wing. The administration argues the project is crucial for national security, citing a recent threatened missile attack on Air Force One. The Solicitor General, D. John Sauer, emphasized the project's importance as an 'integrated military complex' and a 'totally secure ballroom space.' The lower court had suspended its ruling for two weeks to allow for this appeal to the Supreme Court.
