Maine Office of Community Affairs Releases Mobile Home Park Data to Combat Investor Exploitation
The Maine Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) has released a comprehensive data dashboard concerning the state's mobile home parks. This new data includes information on lot rents, the number of units, and vacancies, which advocates believe will be crucial in protecting residents from out-of-state private equity firms. Historically, detailed data on mobile home parks has been scarce, leaving legislators, regulators, and residents uninformed about key metrics such as median lot rent and corporate ownership. The Maine Manufactured Housing Board, which previously oversaw licensing, only tracked the number of licensed parks. MOCA, which assumed the board's duties this summer, now requires park owners to submit this data for licensing. The dashboard reveals that Maine has 475 licensed manufactured housing communities with a total of 19,348 lots, and the statewide average lot rent is $479 per month. It also shows that 2,383 lots are currently unoccupied.
