President Trump Administration's Rollback of Environmental Justice Initiatives and Regulations Faces Legal Challenges
The current administration, under President Trump, has systematically dismantled environmental justice initiatives and regulations established by the previous administration. Following President Trump's Executive Order 14151, titled 'Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,' the Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) were ordered to suspend Community Benefits Plan requirements for existing grants. This framework, which mandated that applicants for DOE funding demonstrate tangible community benefits, was embedded in approximately $100 billion of program funding. Consequently, the DOE terminated grants and loans for over 200 projects that relied on this framework.
