Former Sacramento Telemundo Leader Dies in Kenya Helicopter Crash
José Alberto Suárez, a Florida-based Telemundo executive who previously served as the president and general manager of Telemundo 33 in Sacramento, died in a helicopter crash in northern Kenya. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the aircraft, carrying six passengers and a pilot, crashed while flying from the Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County. There were no survivors. Suárez had a distinguished career spanning over 20 years with NBCUniversal and Telemundo, leading stations in Sacramento, Fresno, Las Vegas, Utah, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, and San Antonio. During his tenure in Sacramento from April 2019 to February 2024, he was known for his community involvement, including serving on the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and receiving its inaugural LGBTQ+ Business Award in 2021.
