Patrick Leahy and John Tierney Foster Transatlantic Heritage Research
Local historian Patrick Leahy and Irish archaeologist John Tierney are collaborating on a project titled 'Irish Names in Canadian Stone: A Transatlantic Heritage,' which will be hosted on August 20th in Ireland. This initiative explores the historical connections between Ballyhoura, Ireland, and the communities established in Canada through the Peter Robinson settlement. The project builds on last year's bicentenary commemoration of the 1825 emigration, which sparked significant interest and ongoing research. The collaboration aims to document local history, graveyards, and community stories, thereby creating opportunities for shared research, heritage tourism, and community engagement between Ireland and Peterborough. This effort is part of a broader initiative by Historic Graves Ireland to launch community-led research projects in both regions.
