Wyandotte County Opts Out of Key Provisions in Kansas Sports Authority Law Affecting Chiefs Stadium Project
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County has voted 9-0 to approve a joint charter ordinance and resolution, effectively opting out of specific provisions within House Bill 2466, which established the Kansas Sports Authority. This decision comes as the county considers a proposed $3 billion stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs, anticipated to open in 2031 near 126th Street and State Avenue. The provisions from which the county is opting out include the mayor’s appointment to the authority, tax treatment of authority property, sales and use tax exemptions for construction purchases, local-government consultation on planning and development, and local building permit and inspection requirements.
