Tropical Storm Bertha Makes Landfall in Louisiana; Florida Warnings Dropped
Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, at 3 p.m. on July 22, 2026, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (72 km/h) and higher gusts. The storm is moving westward at 7 mph (11 km/h) and is expected to continue along the Louisiana and upper Texas coasts through July 23 before dissipating inland over Texas by July 24. Tropical storm warnings for Florida were dropped as of 2 p.m. on July 22, but the state experienced tropical-storm-force winds, locally heavy rain, and dangerous surf earlier in the day. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that wind shear is preventing the storm from intensifying further. Coastal areas from the Alabama/Florida border to Cameron, Louisiana, remain under tropical storm warnings.
