Audit Reveals St. Helena Officials Exceeded Travel Budget and Misused Public Funds
An audit by the Legislative Auditor's Office has revealed that the St. Helena Parish Police Jury exceeded its travel budget by over $125,000 and spent more than $13,000 in public funds on Christmas parties over two years. The audit found that travel expenditures totaled $206,578.64, far surpassing the budgeted $81,100. Additionally, the police jury used public funds for holiday parties, which included expenses for alcohol and entertainment. The audit suggests these actions may violate the Louisiana Constitution and state law, which prohibit the donation of public funds.
