Bug and Stallion Fires Continue to Burn Across Northern Nevada and California
The Bug and Stallion fires have burned significant acreage in northern Nevada and California, with containment efforts ongoing. As of Friday, August 14, the Bug Fire has scorched 88,422 acres and is 31% contained, while the Stallion Fire has burned 40,698 acres and is 44% contained (source: Southwest Area Incident Management Team 1, 2026-08-14 09:15 AM PDT). Firefighters are focusing on securing fire lines and protecting communities, roads, and infrastructure. Wetting rain has helped moderate fire behavior, allowing some residents to return home. However, evacuation orders remain in place for certain areas, and road closures are still active. The fires are human-caused and fueled by dry vegetation, including tall grass, brush, and pinyon-juniper.
