Summer-like Heat Grips South Carolina with Highs in the 90s
South Carolina is experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures more typical of late June than mid-May. According to South Carolina Public Radio, a ridge of high pressure, known as the Bermuda ridge, is driving this heat wave, with temperatures expected to reach the 90s across much of the state. Coastal areas will see slightly cooler highs in the 80s due to the Atlantic Ocean's moderating influence. Columbia is forecast to hit 93°F (34°C) on Tuesday and 94°F (34.4°C) on Wednesday. The UV Index is expected to climb into the 'very high' range, but humidity levels will remain moderate, keeping heat index values close to actual air temperatures. This weather pattern is expected to persist until Thursday, when a weakening ridge and an approaching frontal boundary will bring increased rain chances and cooler temperatures.
