Fort Bragg's Historic Stryker Golf Course to Close Due to Financial Unsustainability
The historic Stryker Golf Course at Fort Bragg, a Donald Ross-designed 18-hole course that opened in 1946, is scheduled to close at the end of the month. According to Jennifer Hodges, director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), which manages Fort Bragg's golf courses, the decision was made due to the course's financial unsustainability. The course costs approximately $750,000 annually to maintain, and declining attendance has made it impossible to sustain two golf courses on the base. Hodges stated that all avenues, including marketing campaigns to increase foot traffic, were exhausted before the decision to close was made. This closure follows a trend of other recreational amenities on the post, such as several bowling alleys, being shut down in recent years as Fort Bragg seeks to balance its recreational offerings with budget limitations. Fort Bragg's other golf course, Ryder Golf Course, located on Normandy Drive, will remain open.
