U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seizes $634,000 in Cocaine at Texas Border Crossing
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas discovered approximately $634,000 worth of suspected cocaine hidden inside a commercial tractor. The incident occurred on August 7, when the truck arrived from Reynosa, Mexico. Following an initial encounter at the cargo facility, officers directed the vehicle for a secondary inspection. Utilizing non-intrusive inspection equipment, anomalies were detected within the tractor itself, rather than its cargo. A subsequent physical search led to the recovery of 18 packages containing 47.48 pounds (21.54 kilograms) of cocaine. CBP announced the seizure a week later, on Friday. Both the suspected narcotics and the commercial vehicle were seized by CBP's Office of Field Operations, and special agents from Homeland Security Investigations have initiated a criminal investigation into the matter. No individuals connected with the tractor-trailer were identified in the announcement.
