US Charges Woman with Plotting Attack on New York State Capitol, Allegedly Pledging Loyalty to ISIL
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Jessica Bowie, 35, on charges of providing material support for terrorism. Bowie is accused of plotting an attack on the New York State Capitol, intending to destroy the building and kill lawmakers. According to a 21-page complaint, Bowie, an Albany resident, frequently used social media to express support for terrorism, including a post referencing the September 11th attacks. In July, an unnamed FBI informant began communicating with Bowie through encrypted apps, during which she allegedly expressed a desire to make a bomb and identified the state capitol as her target. She reportedly messaged, 'I want to destroy as much of the building as possible and kill the senators.' The informant facilitated meetings with two other confidential informants, one of whom provided Bowie with $200 to purchase bomb-making materials from a hardware store.
