Senator Gillibrand Criticizes Trump Administration for $5,000 Cost Increase for New York Families
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has issued a statement criticizing the Trump administration, asserting that its policies have led to an additional $5,000 in expenses for the average New York household. According to a new Joint Economic Committee (JEC) report, these rising costs for goods and services are attributed to the Trump administration's actions. Gillibrand specifically cited the gutting of Medicaid, cuts to Medicare and healthcare subsidies to fund tax breaks for billionaires, a war that increased gas prices, and tariffs that made groceries and essential goods more expensive. She highlighted that President Trump's 2024 campaign promise to end inflation and make America affordable again has not been met, and instead, costs have significantly increased for New Yorkers. The JEC report details increases across various categories, including housing, groceries, energy, and healthcare, since President Trump took office.
