Severe Storms Threaten Midwest with Tornadoes and Damaging Winds
A severe weather outbreak is intensifying across parts of the Midwest, with a Level 4 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms in southern Illinois and eastern Missouri, including St. Louis. This heightened risk indicates a significant threat of intense tornadoes, potentially rated EF3 or greater, as well as damaging winds and large hail. The storms are part of a multiday severe weather event that has already caused destruction across the Plains and South, with over 50 tornado reports since Thursday. The most recent violent tornado, preliminarily rated EF4, struck Enid, Oklahoma, causing significant damage but no fatalities. The severe weather is expected to continue into Tuesday, moving eastward with a slightly reduced, yet still significant, risk of severe thunderstorms.
