EDF Warns Weak Sustainable Fuel Rules Risk Carbon Burden and Environmental Damage
The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) has issued a warning that the global expansion of sustainable alternative fuels could lead to hidden carbon liabilities and secondary environmental damage if not governed by strict, internationally harmonized lifecycle emissions standards. EDF emphasizes that while clean fuel diversification, including domestic hydrogen, e-fuels, and sustainable biofuels, offers an opportunity to reduce reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets and stabilize industrial inputs, the sustainability of these fuels is not inherent.
