The incident gained national attention after footage obtained by the Associated Press in 2021 showed Louisiana State Police officers using excessive force, including punching, kicking, and deploying stun guns on Greene. The settlement is pending approval by the Louisiana Legislature. The case has been controversial, with initial claims by state police suggesting Greene died from a car crash, which was later contradicted by video evidence showing the violent arrest.
