Bakersfield Attorney Accused of Misappropriating Client Funds and Abandoning Cases
Francis Lutie Thompson, a family law attorney based in Bakersfield, California, is facing serious allegations from multiple clients who claim he has taken their money, closed his office, and left their legal cases unresolved. Clients such as Lindsay Torres and Ashley Pilja have come forward, stating that they have paid significant sums to Thompson for legal representation, only to find his office closed and their cases abandoned. Torres, who is in the midst of a divorce, discovered disarrayed client files scattered on the floor of Thompson's office. She reports having paid approximately $4,000 in legal fees. Similarly, Pilja, who entrusted Thompson with $12,000, has filed a complaint with the State Bar of California after her attempts to contact the firm went unanswered. Thompson has acknowledged the closure of his office but denies any wrongdoing, asserting that he is in the process of responding to clients via email.
