LEGO Foundation Commits $97 Million to Support Education for Children in Conflict Zones
The LEGO Foundation has announced a significant commitment of $97 million to expand the International Rescue Committee's (IRC) programs aimed at helping children in conflict zones through play-based learning. This initiative, known as PlayMatters, is designed to reach 5 million children across East Africa and the Middle East, adapting to the evolving needs of regions affected by conflict. The program focuses on integrating playful learning into educational settings, providing training for teachers to tailor instruction to the needs of children traumatized by crises. The funding will support the creation of more classrooms and multimedia lessons, including radio shows that help children express their emotions. The partnership emphasizes flexibility, allowing the IRC to respond to the dynamic nature of conflicts and the changing needs of refugee populations.
