Two Plead Guilty in Ventura County Elder Fraud Scam.
In Ventura County, California, two individuals, Shaohua Sun and Yanwen Gu, have pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to commit elder abuse. The charges stem from a scam that defrauded an elderly man of $25,000. The scheme began with a text message falsely alerting the victim to a fraudulent Apple Store purchase, leading him to contact a supposed fraud department. The victim was then instructed to withdraw cash and deliver it to someone posing as an undercover officer. After realizing the scam, the victim contacted the police, who set up a sting operation resulting in the arrest of Gu and Sun. Both suspects remain in custody on $500,000 bail and face potential prison sentences.
