Modernisation of South African Mining Deemed Urgent Strategic Priority
A recent study highlights the urgent need for modernisation in South Africa's mining sector, driven by both private and public sectors. The study, presented at the Modernisation Showcase, emphasizes the importance of digitization, automation, and beneficiation to attract investment and enhance global competitiveness. Despite South Africa's rich mineral wealth and established markets, challenges such as aging infrastructure, skill shortages, and slow technology adoption hinder progress. The study identifies key innovation priorities, including digital transformation, decarbonization, and value addition, aligning with South Africa's Critical Minerals & Metals Strategy aimed at boosting GDP and job creation by 2030.
