Steven Smith's Passing: A Legacy of Memory and Creativity in Psychology
Steven M. Smith, a renowned psychologist known for his work in memory and creativity, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 74 in Bryan, Texas. Smith, affectionately known as 'Dr. Memory,' succumbed to heart failure after overcoming cancer. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1952, Smith pursued his education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and later earned a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Throughout his career, he published numerous influential papers and books, and was a beloved mentor and educator. Smith was also known for his vibrant personality, love for cooking, and passion for outdoor activities like rock climbing and cycling. He is survived by his children, Noah and Dara Smith, his girlfriend Debbie Partain, and other family members.
