Scientists Identify Natural Hydrogen Source in Canada, Offering Clean Energy Potential
Researchers from the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa have discovered a significant natural hydrogen source beneath the Canadian Shield. This finding reveals that ancient rocks in the region are releasing hydrogen gas, which could serve as a clean energy source. The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, involved measuring hydrogen emissions from boreholes in an Ontario mine. The results suggest that the site could produce enough hydrogen to meet the energy needs of over 400 homes annually. This discovery introduces a new strategy for hydrogen exploration, potentially supporting efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
