New Tool Evaluates Real-World Impact of Research in Development Settings
A new tool, the Research Uptake and Use Evaluation (RUUE), has been developed to measure how research is utilized in real-world development settings. This tool, introduced in a paper published in 'Health Research Policy and Systems', aims to capture the early stages of research influence by asking participants how they plan to use the research findings. Piloted in workshops across Kenya, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Malawi, and Vietnam, RUUE engaged 206 participants to assess the practical application of research. The tool challenges traditional metrics like citation counts by focusing on how research changes perceptions and informs decisions over time. It provides insights into the barriers and facilitators of research use, offering a more realistic view of its impact.
