Serbian Bird-Watching Group Uses Crowdfunding to Preserve Woodland Habitat
In northeastern Serbia, the Bird Protection and Study Society successfully used crowdfunding to purchase a 5-acre woodland known as Nightingale's Forest. This initiative aims to protect the area from potential deforestation and preserve its diverse bird and animal species. The land, previously privately owned, was at risk of being sold for timber, which is more valuable than the land itself. The society's representative, Uros Stojiljkovic, emphasized the importance of this preservation effort amidst Serbia's environmental challenges, including pollution and urban development threats. The crowdfunding campaign raised 8,000 euros ($9,500) in less than a month, with ongoing donations supporting further conservation efforts.
