AAA Advises Against Using Hazard Lights During Storms
AAA Club Alliance has issued guidance advising drivers not to use hazard lights while driving during heavy rainstorms. Hazard lights are intended to signal that a vehicle is disabled, and using them while driving can confuse other motorists regarding braking or lane changes. In Maryland, it is illegal to drive with flashing lights on highways. AAA recommends pulling off the road safely if visibility is poor, rather than stopping on the shoulder or under a bridge. The Maryland State Highway Administration advises slowing down in inclement weather and using low-beam headlights when windshield wipers are on.
