Brandon Herrera, Backed by President Trump, Advances Pro-Gun Stance in Texas Congressional Race
Brandon Herrera, known as 'The AK Guy' and a manufacturer of AK-47 style weapons, is campaigning for a Republican congressional seat in Texas with the explicit endorsement of President Trump. Herrera's central platform advocates for nationwide permitless gun carry, a policy already enacted in Texas since 2021 for individuals over 21, with some limitations. He aims to extend this legislation nationally, emphasizing the prevention of arrests for law-abiding gun owners with legal concealed carry permits. Herrera's stance contrasts with that of his Republican primary opponent, Tony Gonzales, who supported gun control measures in 2022 following the Uvalde school shooting, including enhanced background checks for those under 21 and easier confiscation of weapons from domestic violence offenders. Herrera's campaign aligns with the National Rifle Association's (NRA) legislative action institute, which also supports federal permitless gun carry.
