Current AI Initiative Aims to Democratize Artificial Intelligence Access Globally
Current AI, a non-profit organization, is working to create a public AI infrastructure that is accessible to everyone, similar to the World Wide Web. Founded by Martin Tisne in February 2025, the initiative seeks to counter the dominance of private corporations in the AI sector. The project has received $400 million in funding from various sources, including the French government and several foundations. Current AI has developed a device called Suno Sutra, which provides AI services in 22 Indian languages without internet access, benefiting remote and non-English speaking communities. The organization emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural diversity and local control over data in the digital age.
