Sudden Wind Event Causes Fatal Patio Umbrella Accident in Summerton, South Carolina
A tragic accident occurred at a lakeside restaurant in Summerton, South Carolina, over Memorial Day weekend when a woman was fatally struck by a patio umbrella during a sudden severe weather event. According to the Clarendon County Coroner's Office, the incident happened on Saturday evening at the Driftwood Grill Home of the Lazy Gator, located along Lake Marion. Strong winds dislodged an umbrella from a table, which then struck the woman in the head and neck area while she was dining with her husband. First responders found the victim unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim, identified as a resident of Huger, South Carolina, will undergo an autopsy on Wednesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The coroner's office is treating the death as an accident.
