OECD Highlights Concentration of Research Talent in Key Global Hubs, Including the U.S.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released its latest Research and Innovation Careers Observatory report, launched at the OECD Blue Sky Forum. The report provides insights into the training and movement of researchers and scientists globally. Key findings indicate a significant concentration of research talent in specific hubs, including the EU, China, India, the UK, and the U.S. These five regions collectively account for 70% of doctoral graduates and over 80% of master's graduates across OECD and EU member, accession, and partner economies. The report also notes a rising demand for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) talent, with science and engineering professionals increasing from 3.2% to 3.7% of total employment across OECD countries between 2015 and 2024.
