Israeli Defense Forces Revise PTSD Policy for Reservists Amid Privacy Concerns
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have revised a controversial procedure concerning reservists with psychiatric disabilities, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The original procedure, which allowed for the removal of reservists from active duty based on psychiatric evaluations, was criticized for breaching medical confidentiality. Under the revised policy, sensitive medical information will only be accessible to authorized medical personnel, and reservists will have an extended period of four months to appeal decisions regarding their service status. This change comes after more than 2,200 reservists were flagged for having psychiatric disability ratings above 30%, with some holding high ranks. The IDF aims to protect the privacy of these individuals while ensuring they receive necessary support.
