McKeesport Dog Owner Found Guilty After Dogs Maul Emu to Death
Amber Alexander, the owner of two dogs in McKeesport, has been found guilty of eight summary charges, including having a dangerous dog, following an incident in July where her dogs chased and killed a family's pet emu. Magistrate Joseph Pero issued the verdict on Wednesday. The incident occurred on July 21, when Alexander's dogs pursued the 160-pound, 6-foot-tall emu down Ravine Street, resulting in its death. The Allegheny County dog warden filed the charges against Alexander in late July. The emu's owners, Carly Stroman and David Callos, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the need for accountability. Stroman also stated that the dogs had previously killed nine chickens four years prior. Alexander testified that she let her dogs out, and they chased something over a hill, while Stroman claimed the dogs broke into her fenced yard. Cellphone video captured the chase.
