Mexican University Faces AI Cheating Scandal Affecting Thousands of Admissions
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is embroiled in a scandal involving suspected cheating on its admissions exams. The university annulled approximately 3,000 out of 150,000 tests after detecting an unusually high number of perfect scores, suggesting the use of artificial intelligence tools or pre-obtained questions. This has left all students, including those not suspected of cheating, in uncertainty as UNAM investigates the matter. The controversy has reached political levels, with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum suggesting the involvement of the attorney general to resolve the issue. The university had implemented an AI-based surveillance system to prevent cheating, but many students now blame this system for the unfair treatment they perceive.
