Photographer Todd Antony has captured the intense and chaotic sport of buzkashi in Tajikistan, a game that dates back to the time of Genghis Khan. Buzkashi involves large groups of men on horseback attempting to grab a headless goat and drop it over a goal line. Antony's work, which is part of a black and white series, aims to highlight the cultural significance of the sport rather than normalize its brutality. His photographs, taken from the back of a pickup truck amidst the action, showcase the visceral nature of the sport, with clouds of dust and smoke adding to the cinematic quality of the images. Antony's project is self-funded, and he has also taken portraits of the riders and their families, capturing the human element behind the sport.
