FDA Announces Nationwide Recall of Northwest Naturals Pet Food Due to Salmonella and Listeria Contamination
Northwest Naturals has issued a nationwide voluntary recall for 72 cases of its frozen raw chicken pet food due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The recall includes 53 cases (1,272 pounds) of Northwest Naturals Frozen Chicken Recipe (cat food) and 19 cases (684 pounds) of Northwest Naturals Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe. The affected products were distributed to retail stores across the United States. The contamination was identified after product samples collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested positive for these bacteria. Specifically, the cat food formula (Lot B-5, Best By 01/26/2028, UPC 087316384956) tested positive for Salmonella, while the dog food formula (Lot B-19, Best By 01/25/2028, UPC 087316380392) tested positive for both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. As of the announcement, no illnesses in pets or humans have been reported in connection with this recall.
