US and UK Issue Travel Warnings Over Chikungunya and Yellow Fever Risks
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have issued travel advisories due to rising cases of chikungunya and yellow fever in several countries. The CDC has raised a Level 2 Travel Health Notice, urging travelers to practice enhanced precautions. The UKHSA reported a significant increase in chikungunya cases among travelers returning to the UK, with 112 confirmed and probable cases in 2024, a notable rise from the previous year. The majority of these cases were linked to travel to India, Pakistan, and Brazil. Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease that can cause severe joint pain and fatigue, with symptoms appearing three to seven days after a mosquito bite.
