The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated the recall of frozen blueberries and mixed berries sold at Publix grocery stores to a Class 1 recall, its highest health risk classification. This upgrade signifies a reasonable probability that consuming or being exposed to the product could lead to serious adverse health consequences or death. The recall, initially announced by Publix on July 29, involves four varieties of GreenWise organic blueberries and mixed berries due to potential E. coli contamination. As of the latest reports, 12 individuals across two states have been infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli, with four hospitalizations, though no deaths have been reported.
