Former Middle School Classmates Reunite in Rancho Santa Fe to Open 50-Year-Old Bicentennial Time Capsule
A group of former middle school classmates gathered in Rancho Santa Fe to open a time capsule they assembled in 1976. The event, held on Monday, brought together individuals who were students during the nation's Bicentennial era. The rusty box, originally intended to be opened in 100 years, was opened after 50 years at the request of the students, who wished to see its contents. Donna Miano, the teacher who organized the project, was present and recognized many of her former students. The contents of the capsule had been previously opened and preserved, and included items such as a reel of film, a stamp, a book about life in the 1970s, a copy of Time magazine, a McDonald's wrapper, and letters from elected officials. Joe Repelding, Principal of K-5 and Director of curriculum and instruction, emphasized that the event was about celebrating the artifacts that contribute to the memories of Rancho Santa Fe.
